Adolf Hitler chose his flag with care. On March 16th 1936, he bestowed his new colours on the Wehrmacht. In following years, the Waffen SS and various volunteer contingents were all equipped with flags and insignia, each signifying their individual origins, yet all redolent of National Socialist ideals.
